The Power of the Present Moment

Increasing your peace of mind and happiness in life depends on how well you can live in the present moment. Losing control of your life's journey can cause great stress. Our minds worry about situations that have happened in the past or how we are going to handle future issues. We should not waste energy on things we cannot change. We should all learn to focus on the present.

The Positive Attitude

Take steps to build your new mental attitude. Sit down and become familiar with yourself. Lasting happiness comes from being happy with yourself first. Take the time, a few times a week, to just think about your self-image. Think about the positive ways you have helped yourself or someone else this week. Remember the compliments you have received this week and allow yourself to be proud of your accomplishments. Learn to be thankful for what you already have in life.

If you are out of work, you cannot sit in a corner and complain about how hard it is to find work, or how there are no jobs to be found. Get up and go look for a job today. Do not focus on why you do not have a job. Put your energy into going out and getting a job. Pay attention to what needs to be done and be positive about getting it done. Do everything you can to improve your way of life. Think positively and more success will come your way. When thinking positively, you are thinking in the present. Positive thinking will nourish your subconscious mind in a powerful way. The subconscious mind does not live in the past or the future, it only grasps the present moment.

Necessities for Living

Having an understanding of your non-material things like, shelter to keep you and your family warm and in comfort, food on the table and good health, are the first steps to a solid foundation for happiness. Knowing that the basic necessities do not have to be designer made clothes, rich foods or a castle to live in, will relieve your energy to thinking about what is more important in life. Material things will come and go in a whim. When you can enjoy what you have in life, you will experience relaxation, contentment and a true level of peace. Living in the present moment means you are not pretending, in denial or avoiding any issues. Existing in the present means, you are aware of the way your foods taste, you are listening to what your body needs and you are expressing your own intelligent ideas. Being in the present keeps the toxicities from taking over your wellbeing.

Stop and Smell the Roses

Take time to laugh each day. Laughter is a powerful emotion. Incorporate the magic of laughter in your life. Laughter can reduce stress, enhance good moods, and relieve anger, anxiety and fear. Laughter can also increase immune cells and help us to fight off infections by producing fighting-antibodies in our systems. Other advantages our bodies gain from laughter is that our blood vessels will function better and increase the blood flow to our hearts. The release of endorphins is also created by laughter and can help give you a sense of happiness. A good sense of humor is important and a powerful tool to help maintain your good moods and good health. Your muscles can be relieved of physical tension for up to an hour, with a good hearty laugh. Laughter does not know the past or the future. Psychologically laughter puts us in the present.

Be In the Present

Daily problems can be looked at in different ways. A demanding job can stress many people out and leave them drained. When a demanding task comes along, learn to focus completely on that one task and get it done. Live in the present with that task. Do not let a million and one other distractions take up your time or energy. Once that task is done, move on to the next task of importance. This way you are always living in the moment of the day.

If a child disrupts your train of thought, you could get all stressed out, or you could take a calming breath and be present with the situation. Listen to the child and appreciate that the child comes to you when in distress and be grateful. Handle the problem and then return to your chore or peaceful moment. Handle each problem as they come along without stressing yourself out with wild attitudes and mindless spats. Keep calm and focus on your tasks for the day. Focusing on your priorities will give you an abundance of blessings in your life. The past is history and the future is yet to come. Live in the present moment and enjoy each new experience in life.
